Government & Public Utilities Committee Report: August 23, 2017

The following is a list of potential focal areas of the Government and Public Utilities Committee for the Board's review and approval.

I. Help Inspector Valentine of the Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) to ensure that all residents maintain their properties within the required legal standards. Together, we can identify properties in need of maintenance or those that are abandoned and bring them into compliance. Inspector Valentine is in charge of Fort Washington Estates Property Code and Zoning Enforcement.

II. Post Paul Arneson's flyer about fall clean-up and the following County DPIE Homeowner and Community Property Code Enforcement Brochure link on NextDoor.

III. Provide FWECA with information and updates on the new zoning laws which will become effective in 2018.

IV. Provide the information on yard waste, recycling, regular trash collections and bulky trash collections, and what are acceptable and unacceptable items in each of those collections. (Post the attached trash and recycling information on NextDoor.

V. Ensure that the Annual Community Clean-Up Week sponsored by DPIE continues.

VI. Provide affected FWECA members with updates and the map on the WSSC water main replacement project which will affect about half of the community over the next 2 years. (Post the attached on NextDoor.)

VII. Coordinate with and help Police District VII officers to provide information to our community on safety issues. Neighborhood Watch, and National Night Out.

VIII. Coordinate with the Indian Head Highway Area Action Council (IHHAAC) and provide community with updates on activities of the IHHAAC.

After the Board approves the revised approved list of focal areas, I plan to meet with the following Government and Public Utilities Committee next month to discuss details of each area, and to ask for volunteers to take the lead in each area. The Committee Members to date are:
