Below are a few notes from the 210 Traffic Safety Community Meeting on May 21. Mr. Campanides from the State Highway Administration (SHA) provided the following information:
the design and construction of new lights at every intersection of MD 210 will start on July 1, 2018 and be completed a year later.
the interchange at Kirby Hill Road has been delayed until 2020. PEPCO is holding up the beginning of construction of the overpass with protracted delays of the electrical work.
for the long term, the SHA is beginning the planning and design of the Livingston Road/Palmer Road intersection and the Old Fort Road North intersection into one seamless interchange.
$15 million per year from MGM funds are supposed to be used for MD 210.
I asked if the interchange at Old Fort Road South will be planned in the long term future. Mr. Campanides said: "Yes" as well as the Farmington Road interchange. I asked if the SHA could consider making a right turn lane on Old Fort Road South at MD 210. He said that there was nothing in the plan, but he would look into it.(I found the attached design of the MD 210/Kerby Hill overpass in the internet.) Major Keleti said there have been over 4,900 citations on MD 210 this year. Rom Weiss made the attached power point presentation on the new speed camera legislation which will become effective on October 1, 2018 and end on September 30, 2023. One new speed camera will be placed in the south bound direction for MD 210 at Old Fort Road interchange. No one knows if the speed camera will be at the interchange at Old Fort Road North or Old Fort Road South. The four things that are left to do are in the power point presentation.
Pastor Bynum has been working with the County Council and the School System around MD 210 on a "Youth Slogan and Messaging" contest for MD 210 safety. The winner(s)' slogan(s) and/or message(s) will be posted on the electronic signs along MD 210.
