Board Meeting: September 27, 2017

Fort Washington Estates Civic Association

Meeting Minutes

September 27, 2017

Opening

The regular meeting of the Fort Washington Estates Civic Association was called to order at 8:00 pm on September 27, 2017 at the home of Carolyn Stevens.

Present

Carolyn Stevens, Michele Livingood, Clem Gaynor, and Joe Federline. Brittany Carey joined the meeting by phone.

Agenda

I. Review and Approval of Minutes: Carolyn Stevens raised a motion to approve the minutes for the meeting on August 23, 2017. The motion was passed by unanimous vote.

II. Fall Fling Update: Michele confirmed the October 21st event date and has submitted the event flyer for distribution with the Cove newsletter. There was discussion as to whether any activities (pony ride/inflatable bounce house) should be scheduled for the neighborhood children. Michele said that the children last year seemed content with the park and playground, but she will consider the inflatable bounce house option.

III. Government and Public Utilities Committee: Joe submitted a list of action items and details regarding the status of those items for Board review on September 24. The committee currently has five members; he anticipates a committee meeting will be held in the next several weeks.

Joe has been in contact with Inspector Valentine with DPIE regarding homes he and other committee members have deemed the most in need of attention. A list of those properties is attached hereto. Brittany will search property records to find information on the owners of these problem properties, and as needed. As the committee moves forward, members will walk the neighborhood, noting houses with code violations, and then create a list of those properties to be submitted to Inspector Valentine. This method of reporting should be more effective than using 3-1-1.

The committee will begin posting pertinent county government and utility notices as “documents” on NextDoor. Posting this way makes searching for specific information easier than sifting through the general feed. Brittany will be responsible for posting documents to NextDoor for this committee. Carolyn has several documents that she will email to Brittany to be posted.

IV. Membership Drive: Results to Date: Clem reported that there are now 56 paid members for the fiscal year. Michele will post a reminder on NextDoor.

V. Communications Committee: Carolyn submitted the minutes from this committee’s meeting of September 19. Committee members decided to keep the format of the directory the same as in previous years. They will seek ads from local businesses to help cover costs of printing.

The committee would like the Board to better communicate with residents. Carolyn suggested holding a second general meeting in January, to which Board members agreed. A meeting date will be set in November; Michele will contact the District VII Police Station to reserve their meeting room.

VI. Small Community Library: Brittany has contacted MNPPC to request the contact information for the individual who can approve (or provide proper instruction for) having the small library posted in the community park.

Adjournment

Meeting was adjourned at 8:43 pm by Carolyn Stevens. The next general meeting will be at 8 pm on November 9, at the home of Carolyn Stevens.
