A Message from the President

Hope this newsletter finds you well. The new FWECA Board has taken off with a blast. There was a 15% increase in new membership and the Truck or Treat was a success. As we enter into the holiday season, my wish is that you enjoy this time with family and friends but also be aware of your surroundings. It’s starting to get dark earlier. Try to fill your gas tank before sunset. No ATM runs in the evening. Park in well-lit areas. And again, pay attention to your surroundings.

The membership drive is not the end, we're always looking for more neighbors to join. FWECA is for the betterment of the neighborhood. I had a conversion with a neighbor about joining the association. His response was, " I was told the association doesn't have any power to do anything".  His statement lingered with me for a while. My response would be," It's not about the power as much as it is in getting to know your neighbor and how we can help one another”.

If you lived in the area last year and beyond you may remember the water and icing issue at the intersection of Fort Washington Road and L’Enfant Drive. It was FWECA who reached out to WSSC and discovered what was causing the issue. In turn we notified the appropriate neighbor; the waterline and the road has since been repaired.

Recently, I learned many of our block captains are our beloved seniors; we are looking for block co-captains if you will. My goal is not to remove the seniors from their position but have someone work with them to get messages out in your designated area.

FWECA is in need of volunteers to help with various projects, we would like to hold for the community:

  • The website needs updating.

  • Christmas Bazaar and Social – help setting up and breaking down, serving and soliciting vendors.

  • Judges for Christmas Decorations

  • Neighbor outreach – Check on senior residents.

As President my goal is to determine how and what FWECA can do to improve our neighborhood. Please forward any suggestions on how to help improve our neighborhood.
